Greens Oppose Move to Set Up IT Park on Aranmula Wetlands

Over a decade after protests forced the scrapping of the proposed Aranmula airport, the wetlands of this heritage-rich village have once again become a battleground.
This time, an alleged plan to establish an IT park on the same site has sparked fresh opposition from environmental activists and political leaders.
The Aranmula Airport Protest Committee, which played a crucial role in halting the airport project, has regrouped to counter what it claims is a disguised attempt to revive the earlier plan. At a meeting held on Tuesday, the committee resolved to strongly oppose any move to reclaim the wetlands.
The committee alleged that the original airport proposal by KGS Group was shelved after nearly 90 per cent of the 344-acre project site was found to be ecologically sensitive wetlands.
