Experts Visit Angel Valley, Pampavalley on Request to Exclude from Buffer Zones

Amidst growing concerns over the delay in excluding Angel Valley and Pampavalley wards in the Erumeli grama panchayat in Kottayam from the buffer zones of Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR), a three-member team appointed by the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) visited the site on Thursday.

The team came to assess the situation as part of the national board's proceedings, considering the recommendation of the State Wildlife Board to alter the PTR boundaries to exclude human settlements in the Pampavalley and Angel Valley areas.

The team, comprising R Sukumar, a wildlife expert and NBWL member; R Raghu Prasad, inspector general (Wildlife), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Pramod G Krishnan, chief wildlife warden, Kerala surveyed the areas from Mookkenpetty causeway to Moolakkayam to gather first-hand information on the human settlements in question.
