District administration to take steps to prevent monsoon-related disasters

With the South-west monsoon season nearing, the district administration has convened a meeting to review preparations to be put in place to prevent monsoon-related disasters.

The meeting of various department heads chaired by District Collector John V Samuel on Tuesday, decided to implement urgent measures to mitigate the risks associated with the monsoon season.

The meeting reviewed matters including evacuating people residing in areas prone to landslides and landslips to safer locations in the event of a heavy rainfall warning.

The services of the necessary officers will be ensured round the clock at the district and taluk emergency operation centres during the days of heavy rain.

Control rooms will also be opened in local self-government institutions to facilitate communication and coordination efforts.
