With payments pending even 3 months after procurement, paddy farmers to escalate protest
DESPITE several interventions by the government, the delay in disbursing payments for paddy procured from farmers continues to create trouble in the paddy sector of Upper Kuttanad.
With payments still pending even three months after procurement, farmers are preparing to escalate their protest.
As part of this, farmers in the M N Block paddy fields in Kumarakom have resolved to forgo paddy cultivation for the upcoming 'puncha' season.
The M N Block Padashekhara Samiti (group farming committee) of 1,300-acre paddy fields took the decision following no progress in discussions with Supplyco authorities concerning the distribution of paddy.
