Takes aerial surveys of states, pledges 'all possible assistance' to help restore normalcy
PRIME Minister Narendra Modi announced immediate financial assistance for Punjab and Himachal Pradesh on Saturday to address the widespread destruction caused by floods, landslides, and heavy rainfall. Punjab, facing its worst floods since 1988, has been sanctioned ₹1,600 crore, while Himachal Pradesh will receive ₹1,500 crore. Both states will also receive ex gratia assistance of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.
Modi conducted aerial surveys of the worst-affected areas in the states. He reviewed the situation in Gurdaspur, Punjab, and Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, with officials and elected representatives. He expressed condolences to the bereaved families, assured people that the Centre stood with them, and pledged "all possible assistance" to help restore normalcy.
