Says untimely intervention by leader only helped in losing credit party earned after nuns' arrest
STATE secretary M V Govindan is facing criticism from within the CPM leadership for his remarks against Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany. Govindan had accused Bishop Pamplany of opportunism, and praising Union Home Minister Amit Shah after the two arrested nuns were granted bail in Chhattisgarh. The CPM secretary reportedly termed the Archbishop as 'someone who is very opportunist'. The Syro Malabar Church retaliated in strong words and asked him not to speak like Govindachamy, a life sentence convict.
Sources in the CPM told TNIE that Govindan faced criticism in the party forum for his unwanted remark. Leaders are of the opinion that Govindan's intervention was untimely as it only helped lose the credit it earned through the party's intervention after the arrest of the nuns.

ZOHRAN MAMDANI TROUNCES TRUMPISM
Democratic sweeps in other key races, exposes the fragility of Trump's grip. It's a national referendum on the man's corrosive legacy. Voters in the nation's largest city, a microcosm of America's diversity, rejected Trump's exclusionary toolkit with visceral force. Mamdani turned the race into a personal battleground of identities, where heritage became both shield and sword. However, this very emphasis on leftist ideals could exacerbate national divisions. Mamdani's policies threaten to weaken the fight against illegal immigration and balloon expenditures on social measures, potentially straining the city's and the country's resources at a time when prudence is paramount.

How Distance Reveals What Proximity Conceals
Last week, I interviewed Tuva Atasever, a Turkish astronaut, as part of my PhD research at Oxford. While Atasever detailed the rigorous selection and training, his tone shifted when he recalled crossing the Kármán line. He spoke with fond nostalgia about floating in microgravity, describing it as a meditative and spiritually exhilarating experience.
