FED up with the relentless surge in coconut thefts, particularly as prices for the tropical fruit have hit unprecedented highs, residents of Thottilpalam in Kozhikode district have taken matters into their own hands, forming an action committee to combat the rampant pilferage.

The situation is dire, especially in the Koodalil ward, which has reported over ten cases of coconut robbery in the last ten days.

The newly formed action committee has begun actively monitoring vulnerable areas, yet locals express frustration over the perceived inaction from the police despite repeated complaints.
