Tur growers stare at losses due to dry spell in Nov, soil disease

About 1 lakh hectares of land where tur was cultivated, is affected

FOR the first time in recent years, tur growing farmers are facing crop loss due to Dry Root Rot because of dry spell during the entire month of November. Dry Root Rot (DRR) is a disease caused by soil-borne fungus.

The district has to receive one or two good spells of rain for a good yield. The farmers expected good yield and were preparing for harvesting in the last week of December. But due to a dry spell in the entire month of November, the tur crop in the district has been badly affected.
