The High Power Committee for Redressal of Regional Imbalance, which was set up by the Siddaramaiah Government on March 16, 2024, under the chairmanship of renowned economist Prof. M Govind Rao, will visit Kalaburagi for the second time today in a span of 8 months and will hold meetings with the stakeholders.

The Committee visited most of the districts, and the visit to Kalaburagi is last on the list.

Though the High Power Committee led by Prof. Govind Rao visited Kalaburagi and held a meeting on January 22, it went unnoticed to many, and the representatives of different organizations who were present insisted the Committee visit again as they were informed about the Committee's visit at the last moment.

As per the promise, Prof. Govind Rao will visit Kalaburagi on Thursday and hold two meetings—one with the officials, heads of different organizations and parties, and another with the representatives of business communities.

The meeting with the officials and different organizations will be held in the auditorium of the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board at 2 PM, and another meeting with the representatives of the business community at the chamber of the Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries at 6 PM.

The Committee Chairman, Prof. Govind Rao; Member Secretary, Dr. R Vishal; and member from KK Region, Sangeeta Kattimani, will be present at both meetings.

Highly placed sources in the committee told TNIE that the Committee has been given the task of studying the recommendations of the Dr. D.N. Nanjundappa Committee (which gave its report in 2002) to find out afresh how many taluks in the state are still backward and the measures to be taken to bring them on par with developed taluks.

The Nanjundappa Committee, in its recommendations, stated that out of 175 taluks (which were in existence at that time), 39 taluks were most backward, 40 taluks were more backward, and 35 taluks were backward.
