K'buragi farmers to meet CM in B'luru

A delegation of different organisations of farmers would go to Bengaluru from Kalaburagi on Wednesday and meet the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later, under the guidance of Kalaburagi district in-charge minister Priyank Kharge to fulfill the demands of farmers, said former president of Kalaburagi APMC Avvanna Myakeri here on Monday.

Addressing a press conference here, Avvanna said that the activists of many organisations of farmers were staging indefinite dharna in front of Deputy Commissioner's (DC's) office for three days recently demanding to pay compensation to the tur (red-gram) growing farmers as 60 per cent of the crop which was cultivated in about 6.5 lakh hectares of land was affected by wilt disease.

The dharana was withdrawn after the assurance from the DC that the government will consider their demand and will do the needful. On the next day the Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar who visited Kalaburagi also assured the delegation which met him that the government will sympathetically look at the demands of the farmers. But nothing has been done so far.
