Hidkal dam row: Forums to stage protest on March 5

A campaign to halt the government's decision to divert water from the Hidkal dam located in Belagavi district to the industrial areas of Hubballi-Dharwad is gaining momentum as several organisations have announced a massive protest on March 5.
They said the government failed to halt the water diversion project.
The organisations expressed fear that the diversion of Hidkal waters to the twin cities could lead to a drinking water crisis in Belagavi.
The members of various social organisations including Bharatiya Krishik Samaj, Bhrashtachar Nirmulan Pariwar, Grameen Kuli Karmikara Sangha and others held a meeting under the initiative 'Namma Niru Namma Hakku' in Belagavi on Tuesday. The social activists gave their opinions in the meeting and unanimously decided to launch a massive protest.
