100 Rescued Bonded Labourers to Attend I-Day
June 25, 2025
|The New Indian Express Kalaburagi
The Centre will invite 100 rehabilitated bonded labourers, along with their spouses, as special guests to the upcoming Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort.
This initiative may renew the government's focus on bonded labour and its rescue and rehabilitation.
In a letter, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has requested the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) to coordinate with state governments to compile a list of 100 rescued and rehabilitated labourers for this purpose. In the letter, seen by this newspaper, the MoD has also asked the labour ministry for suggestions on inclusion of any other category of labourers in the special guest list.
