ICG, police to inspect coastline for deploying boats

IN a bid to strengthen surveillance along Odisha sea coast, the Indian Coast Guard and Odisha Police have decided to do a depth-mapping of the state's entire 480-km-long coastline for proper deployment of patrolling vessels.
The decision came after a meeting was held between DGP YB Khurania and Coast Guard Commander of Eastern Seaboard ADG Donny Michael here recently. "A board will be formed comprising of officers of Odisha Police and ICG. The officers will carry out a survey of the entire coastline to identify the areas having shallow and deep waters," Khurania said.
While the sea water near Chandipur is shallow, it is deep near Gopalpur, and in between there are several river mouths.
