The sharp message from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) came minutes after US President Donald Trump threatened to "substantially" raise tariffs for India's continued purchase and resale of Russian oil.

In a statement on Truth Social on Monday, Trump said: "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian oil; they are selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine... I will be substantially raising the tariff paid by India to the USA."
