WRD wraps up renovation work of LBP canal

RENOVATION work of the Lower Bhavani Project (LBP) canal, which serves as a vital irrigation channel for agricultural communities of Erode, Tiruppur and Karur districts, has been fully completed, said Water Resources Department (WRD) officials. Head sluices and direct sluices have been constructed at 523 locations, and protection walls and slope walls have been built for 151.52 km along the canal.
Sources said the LBP canal, with a total length of about 200 km, supports an extensive ayacut area of 2,07,000 acres. To enhance the structural integrity and water-carrying efficiency of the canal system, comprehensive renovation works were initiated in 2021, at an estimated cost of ₹709.60 crore.
