Ranya Rao gets one-year jail in gold smuggling case
July 18, 2025
|The New Indian Express Dharmapuri
Kannada film actress Ranya Rao has been sentenced to one year of preventive detention under the stringent Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA) in connection with a high-value gold smuggling case.
-
BENGALURU:
The Advisory Board overseeing COFEPOSA cases recently ruled that Rao will not be eligible for bail throughout the period of her detention. The actress, along with co-accused Tarun Raju, had earlier secured default bail on 20 May from a city court after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) failed to file a chargesheet within the statutory time limit.
