DR Beoncy Laishram, a trans person, was relieved on Tuesday as the Manipur HC directed authorities to issue fresh academic certificates to her under a new name and gender.
Born as a biological male, "Boboi Laishram" had undergone gender reassignment surgery in 2019 and completed legal process to become Beoncy Laishram, a female. She had no problem in changing her name and gender in her Aadhaar, Voter and PAN cards. However, when she approached the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur and the Manipur University, they refused to entertain her.
