Kharif season: Record production of rice, but oilseeds & pulse output down

THE agriculture ministry said the country's rice production during the kharif season that ended in October reached a record 124.

5 million tonnes (MT), a 1. 4% rise compared to the previous year.However, the output of pulses, oilseeds and cotton declined.

Total foodgrain production for the kharif 2025-26 season is estimated at 173.3 MT, up from 169.5 MT a year earlier, according to the ministry's first advance estimate. Kharif maize production is estimated at 28.303 MT, 3.495 MT more than that of the previous year.
