After 3 decades, Prem Singh Rawat declared a 'martyr', Uttarakhand elated

NEARLY three decades after he laid down his life for the nation's security, BSF Lance Naik Prem Singh Rawat has been accorded the 'martyr' status, evoking immense pride and emotion for his family and residents of his village.

The certificate honouring his martyrdom was presented by the Centre and BSF Directorate. Lance Naik Rawat, a resident of Rikosha village in Tarikhet block of Almora district, had joined the BSF in 1984. He was serving as a Lance Naik with the 57th Battalion, stationed at the critical Jalangi post along the India-Bangladesh border in South Bengal.
