A special court of Mainpuri in central UP sentenced three persons to death for the massacre of 24 Dalits in Dehuli village of Jasrana in Firozabad district 44 years ago.

- NAMITA BAJPAI @ Lucknow

The 1981 mass killing shocked the nation at that time when a gang of dacoits disguised as cops entered the village and murdered the Dalits, including women and two children as young as two years and six months old, respectively.

On March 12, this year, special judge Indira Singh convicted the trio -- Kaptan Singh (now 60), Rampal (60), and Ram Sevak (70). The court also imposed penalties of 2 lakh each on two of the three accused and 1 lakh on the third.

The three convicts were taken to Mainpuri district jail following the court order.
