A political storm has broken out in Gujarat after it emerged that the BJP has refused to bear the expenses of the grand funeral of former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, leaving his shocked family to settle bills of nearly 25 lakh. State BJP President and Union Minister CR Patil dodged direct questions on the controversy.

Rupani was among the 241 people who died aboard London-bound Air India Flight 171 on June 12, 2025, after the plane crashed within minutes of takeoff from Ahmedabad.
