Rlys seeks to take a peek into employees' health

A safe train journey primarily lies in the hands of the driver, called loco pilot in railway parlance. How do you know this pilot's well-being; is he on some medication and can he handle the speed and stress? Cool it, the Indian Railways for the first time will conduct a study on the impact of medicines that its employees on duty might be having for lifestyle diseases.

The study will focus on whether medicines being used by the staff on duty cast any impact on the safe operation of trains. The Railway Board has directed all zones to collect information and share with the board on lifestyle diseases of its drivers and guards in particular and what medicines they take while on duty.

"The study will enable the railways to know the effect of medicines taken by drivers and those on duty at signals and other key installations. "This can help in strengthening the existing arrangements," said an official.
