National security initiative aimed at building a comprehensive, indigenous defence shield by 2035, Rubio says relationship 'consequential and far-reaching'

- RAJESH KUMAR THAKUR @ New Delhi

In his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced Mission Sudarshana Chakra, a national security initiative aimed at building a comprehensive, indigenous defence shield by 2035.

Designed to protect both strategic and civilian infrastructure, the system is being likened to a next-generation, Indian-built version of Israel's Iron Dome.

"In the next ten years, by 2035, I want to expand, strengthen, and modernise this national security shield. Drawing inspiration from Lord Shri Krishna, we have chosen the path of the Sudarshan Chakra... The nation will be launching the Sudarshan Chakra Mission," the Prime Minister said.
