MHA says NGOs getting foreign fund won't be able to publish news content
May 28, 2025
|The Morning Standard
FURTHER tightening the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) norms for the Non-Governmental Organisations receiving foreign funds, the government has asserted that those engaged in publication-related activities and receiving overseas contribution will not be able to publish any newsletter and must get a certificate from the Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI) that they do not circulate any news content through broadcast or print.
All the NGOs seeking registration under the FCRA will be required to abide by this.
A notification was issued by the MHA saying it has amended the rules made under the FCRA. "NGOs which are seeking permission to get overseas funding must give an undertaking that will adhere to the Good Practice Guidelines of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the global watchdog for terror financing and money laundering."
