THE High Court on Friday asked why the “grounds for arrest” were not mentioned in the remand application of Delhi Police in the UAPA case against NewsClick founder Prabir Purkayastha and the news portal’s HR head Amit Chakraborty

- SEIS NOMTLEOW

Justice Tushar Rao Gedela also sought Delhi Police response after hearing Purkayastha and Chakraborty’s plea challenging their arrest, remand, and the FIR registered against them under the UAPA, which is allegedly tied to a Chinese funding case. The court posted the matter for Monday.

Representing the petitioners, senior advocate Kapil Sibal argued that the arrest was illegal, saying, “No grounds of arrest are given.” He also pointed out that both accused are entitled to counsel as per the HC rules.
