Govt not keen to give House panel chief posts to Oppn, says Tharoor

AMID reports of tussle between the Centre and the Opposition over parliamentary standing committee chairperson posts, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday said that "it only reflects the government's growing insecurity, rather than any accumulation of wisdom or confidence after 10 years in power.
" Even months after the third Modi government assumed office in June, the Lok Sabha Speaker is yet to constitute the department-related standing committees.
In a post on micro-blogging site X, Tharoor said it is disappointing that the government appears to have no idea of the purpose of parliamentary committees, which is to provide an additional layer of scrutiny and accountability for the government without the political grandstanding often associated with publicly televised Parliament sessions.
