Exports Rise 9% in April; US Shipments Surge 27% to $8.5 Billion

Despite the 10% tariff imposed by the US in April, India's merchandise exports rose by 9% during the month, with exports to the US surging by 27%. Total exports during the month were $38.5 billion, compared to $35.3 billion a year ago. Exports to the US rose to $8.5 billion in April 2025, even as imports from the country jumped 64% to $5.2 billion. The US had announced a reciprocal tariff of 26% on Indian goods on April 2, and a baseline tariff of 10% was imposed from April 5. Later, the 26% tariff was put on hold for 90 days.
