Petitions seeking 100% cross-verification of votes rejected; bench issues two directives
THE Supreme Court on Friday rejected all petitions seeking 100% cross-verification of votes cast on electronic voting machines (EVMs) with a Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), saying suspicions of tampering were unfounded. It also turned down pleas to revive paper ballots.
A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta delivered two separate but concurring verdicts.
