With cops on alert to prevent gathering without permission, medicos arrive in small groups FOR the medicos on the street, rallying for justice for their fellow colleague from Kolkata and a fairer and safer working environment for all healthcare proffessionals, the way to Nirman Bhavan on Friday was anything but smooth.
Delhi Police had a field day in stopping the ever-increasing march of protesters towards Nirman Bhavan during the day and towards the India Gate in the evening.
The police had set-up barricades at INA as early as noon, and were stopping every auto and cab near Delhi Haat to check if passengers were headed towards the demonstration site at Nirman Bhavan.
"We live in a democracy. Don't we have the right to be here; to vent our anger and frustration at the events unfolding in Kolkata's RG Kar hospital? Can't we place our demands before the government peacefully?" asked Dr Survrankar Dutta, general secretary of AIIMS Delhi resident doctors' association (RDA).
