City Set for Mock Drill at 55 Locations

The authorities will conduct mock drills at 55 locations across the 11 revenue districts of the national capital at 4 pm on Wednesday as part of the nationwide civil defence exercise 'Operation Abhyas' directed by the Centre, officials said.

The drills will be carried out over a couple of days, covering the entire city, with locations including Delhi Cantonment, Connaught Place, and Lok Nayak Hospital. Preparatory meetings with various stakeholders have already been held to ensure smooth execution, they said. The move comes in response to an advisory from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), urging all states to carry out mock drills following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 deaths, mostly tourists.

The attack heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. As part of the security enhancement, Delhi Police has intensified surveillance at key locations, focusing on tourist spots and crowded markets throughout the city. Increased patrolling, both day and night, has been implemented.
