IFP welcomes repo rate cut, urges action for economic recovery

THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) welcomes the decision by the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to reduce the repo rate by 25 basis points, bringing it down from 7.00% to 6.75%.
This is the lowest in over two years, and the corresponding drop in the prime lending rate to 10.25% will offer some relief to households and businesses who continue to shoulder the pressures of a difficult economic climate.
The IFP notes the unanimous decision by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) to adopt a less restrictive monetary stance, supported by an improved inflation outlook, a stronger rand, and lower oil price assumptions.
This is a positive signal, particularly as global economic conditions remain turbulent and South Africa’s growth outlook—while improving—remains fragile.
