Foxie versus lions
May 19, 2025
|The Mercury
SOME amusing footage comes this way of a tiny fox terrier trying to chomp its food in what appears to be a rural backyard.
But he's being set upon by a group of lion cubs much, much bigger than he. (Yes, lion cubs - the filmers don't explain).
Is our foxie intimidated? Not at all.
He flies at the lion cubs, snapping and chasing them off. It happens again and again. Hilarious!
The foxie was once known as the Jack Russell, after the Reverend Jack Russell, a hunting enthusiast who bred them in 18th century England. My own family bred fox terriers. My dad always said a foxie following the spoor of a buck would, if the trail was crossed by the scent of a rat, switch to follow the rat.
The caption to this entertaining footage: “When you get your Jack Russell from Brakpan ...” I love it!
