IT WAS with deep sadness that we learnt of the resignation of Dr AV Mahomed, a founding member of the KZN Interfaith Religious Council. Dr Mahomed is a respected member of the community and is well known for his views on social cohesion and human rights. His views on the genocide in Gaza are commendable and shared by millions of peace-loving and justice-seeking people around the world.
His decision to resign, while regrettable, must be seen in the context of the greatest humanitarian catastrophe in modern times, and yet the council is afraid to take a firm stand on the starvation of fellow human beings and human rights. Are these council members spineless? We cannot, and must not, close our eyes to the atrocities perpetrated on the Pales
