SUNDERLAND'S Under-18 lead coach Fin Lynch praised his side's discipline and togetherness after a 0-0 draw against Hellas Verona U20 in their opening preseason fixture in Italy.

Severe weather saw the match abandoned after an hour as it was halted by a storm - both teams agreeing to end the contest in the interest of player safety. But a young Sunderland side had gone toe-to-toe with a more experienced Verona outfit featuring several players aged 19 and older.
Speaking after the match, Lynch expressed pride in the squad's approach, with several players taking their first steps in full-time football.
“I'm incredibly proud of the group,” Lynch told safc.com.
