Whisky distillery crowned 'best new tourism business'

NORTHUMBERLAND museum and whisky distillery Ad Gefrin has been awarded best new tourism business of the year at England's national tourism awards ceremony.
The Wooler attraction took the gold at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in its category, having been commended for its storytelling, sustainability, and packaging of an “immersive and historical English whisky tour”.
Judges described the £16m site, which has already attracted 150,000 people since opening in 2023, as a must-visit destination.
The latest triumph comes just days after Ad Gefrin took five architectural awards including North East building of the year. Ad Gefrin co-founder Eileen Ferguson said she was “absolutely overwhelmed” by winning the tourism award.
