U18s boss pleased despite heavy defeat

“OVER the moon” was how Sunderland 18s lead coach described his feelings despite exiting the Durham ‘Frank Pattison’ Challenge Cup with a 5-0 thumping from Dunston at the UTS Stadium.

Goals from Wil Shaw and JJ O'Donnell gave the Northern Premier League East side a two-goal cushion at the interval, before second-half strikes from Shaw, JJ Chrisp and Michael Pearson sealed victory for the hosts.
Jordan Moore made four changes to the side that defeated Ipswich Town 5-1in the Premier League Cup at the weekend, with Jay Brown handed his first U18 start in a youthful squad that included nine new scholars.
The young Black Cats were tested from the outset, with goalkeeper Joe Cowan producing a superb double save to deny Harry Gardiner early on.
