RAIL passengers are being warned of significant disruption set to take place over the August bank holiday weekend.

- EMILY GRAY

CrossCountry passengers are advised industrial action is set to impact a number of services. All other operators are expecting to run a normal service.

CrossCountry will operate a reduced timetable over the Bank Holiday weekend - with no services on Saturday, August 23 - due to industrial action by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT).

North East bus passengers had been also facing disruption this week, with 600 Stagecoach staff striking over pay, however this action was suspended yesterday.

Services on Sunday, August 24 are also likely to be subject to cancellations across all CrossCountry routes.

Passengers are advised not to travel on Saturday, August 23 and to travel on either side of the bank holiday weekend, or claim a full refund.
