Explore new outdoor careers as a National Trust apprentice

Take on a position of Trust

LOOKING after the National Trust's outdoor places in the North East and Yorkshire takes love and care and a great deal of expertise and skill. The Trust's apprenticeship programme gives people the opportunity to develop skills like these on a work-based accredited training programme a great opportunity for school leavers.

Apprentices work for the conservation charity, alongside college-based learning, gaining a qualification while working in picturesque locations with experienced staff.

OSCAR'S STORY

Oscar grew up in Derwentside, near Gibside, and loves working outdoors, close to nature. “Whenever I’m down in the woods I'm the happiest I can be,” he said.

Oscar, 26, joined a week-long course last summer, which was designed in collaboration with both the National Trust and The King’s Trust to give young people an insight into life as an Assistant Ranger at Gibside, whilst developing their skills and confidence.

Through that, he found out about the National Trust’s Level 2 Assistant Ranger Apprentice roles, funded by HSBC UK - exactly the opportunity he’d been looking for.

HEALTHY START

January is the right time for a reset. Nothing extreme, just food to help you feel good. Think fresh flavours, colourful plates and meals as nourishing as they are comforting. Soothing soups, vibrant salads and a spicy curry are on my menu plus, of course, the odd selection box chocolate which needs eating up!
