- By MARK CARRUTHERS

FORMER Newcastle United youngster Jude Swailes is loving football once again as he plays a lead role in Dunston UTS's attempts to secure a historic promotion this weekend.

The centre-back was part of United academy sides that included the likes of Elliot Anderson, Tom Allan and Matty Longstaff prior to his departure during the summer of 2021 after spending several years within the Magpies youth setup.

After spending the following six months with American college side Charleston Cougars, Swailes returned to the North East to join a Dunston side managed by his Dad, Chris.

Although the fourth tier of the non-league game may seem a world away from dreaming of life in the Premier League, Swailes has bought into life at Dunston and has taken the club to his heart.

He told The Journal: "I went to America after leaving Newcastle and then came back to Dunston and all I wanted to do was to get back playing football and playing with a smile on my face. It's always difficult when something like that has happened but coming here just felt right because it's an unbelievable club.
