Plan for 47 homes at old college site is approved

PLANS to demolish part of a former college in North Shields to make way for new housing have been approved.
The older section of the college is the subject of a separate plan and is not intended to be demolished
North Tyneside Council's planning committee has backed plans for a redevelopment of part of the closed Queen Alexandra Sixth Form College.
The college building closed in 2020, with pupils moved to the college's Wallsend site, which also later stopped providing A-level courses.
The building will be partly torn down and replaced with a 47-home estate. Councillors unanimously approved Lovell Homes' proposals, which will see the more modern section of the Queen Alexandra College site demolished.
