DUKES ECB NORTH EAST PREMIER LEAGUE

- By STEVE CLARKE

SUNDERLAND opener Greg Applegarth scored 43, but the runs did not come easily against some good bowling from South Northumberland.

The home side were eventually all out for 114, with Ollie McGee taking 3-16. The reply was positive, Sam Ewart making 48 not out and Solomon Bell 52 not out, as South Northumberland won by 10 wickets finishing on 115-0.

Hetton Lyons lost early wickets at home to Shotley Bridge, but Jarvis Clay with 37 and Paul Coughlin 140 from 98 balls, which included 16 fours and four sixes, put on 102 runs for the third wicket in a total of 298-8, as Jack Temple took 4-44.

Shotley then had Paul Greenwell score 51, but they were all out for 165, thanks to Cameron Grimwood taking 3-33 and Robert Talbot 3-32.

Newcastle struggled early on at Castle Eden against some tight bowling, before Chris Youlden scored 76 and Ben Green 39 as they made 238 all out.

Eden lost two early wickets and slumped to 59-4 before JP Meade rescued things with 81, but they were all out for 207, as Joseph Stuart and Charlie Darwood shared six wickets.
