O'Nien deal is a reward for his efforts

SUNDERLAND sporting director Kristjaan Speakman says Luke O’Nien’s new contract with the club is the result of his contribution in recent years - and there’s hope that will continue.

The defender has signed a new deal to extend his stay at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2027 - with the Black Cats holding an option of a further year.

O’Nien is the club's current longest serving player and the record appearance holder at the Stadium of Light, having joined from Wycombe Wanderers back in 2018.

He has made 314 outings for the club, scoring 23 times and has appeared at the Stadium of Light 140 times - more than anyone else.
