DURHAM Women began a new era in domestic cricket with a nine-wicket win over Essex yesterday.

A four-wicket haul for seamer Phoebe Turner was followed by a brilliant unbeaten 93 for New Zealand international Suzie Bates as dominant Durham brushed aside Essex at Banks Homes Riverside in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup women’s competition opener.
