Cutler arrived on Wearside focused on building something lasting not just for now, but for the years ahead.

He has nearly a decade of topflight experience, most notably at Aston Villa, where he helped shape Emiliano Martínez into one of the best goalkeepers in world football. But for all his accolades, Cutler remains grounded. His ethos is clear: develop people, not just players.

"I've played and coached at every level," he told safc.com.

"That gives you perspective. I’ve learned from every place I've been, and I bring all of that here.”

Sunderland's rise from League One to the Premier League is a rare journey and it's one Cutler is uniquely equipped to understand. Having helped clubs like Villa navigate the leap from Championship to Premier League, he knows the demands.
