Gastropub on market for £1.4m

A POPULAR Northumberland gastropub and hotel is up for sale with a £1.4m price tag four years after it was bought out of administration.

St Mary’s Inn at Stannington, near Morpeth, was first opened more than 10 years ago after a major refurbishment. However, despite undergoing a lavish transformation, its owners at the time decided to temporarily close the former Edwardian hospital three years later as the expected housing developments around it were taking much longer than expected.

Its reopening was welcomed by the local community in 2018 but like thousands of businesses around the region and beyond - especially in the hospitality industry - it suffered when it was forced to close during the Covid pandemic. In 2021, it was placed into administration after a creditor in Australia called in a debt.

It was sold to new owners for just £60,000, documents filed at Companies House show.
