THREE housebuilding companies have been chosen to develop a £178m programme that will create 800 homes and a new school on the outskirts of Newcastle.

- GRAEME WHITFIELD

Banks Property secured outline planning permission for the Kingston Village site last year. Proposals would see more than 800 new family homes being built on a 49-hectare site between Kingston Park and Dinnington, including around 120 affordable homes.

Banks Property and property consultants youngsRPS have now announced that Miller Homes, Stonebridge Homes and Banks Homes have signed up to the project, which will feature community assets including a new primary school, a local shop and cafe, allotments, a village green and public open space.

There will also be a network of public foot paths and cycle ways, including links to the Newcastle Great Park and other nearby communities.

Full details of the scheme are now being finalised, but it is hoped that infrastructure work could start on site early next year. The first new homes are expected to be available for sale in 2027.
