Bomb squad incident was false alarm

POLICE are no longer investigating an incident that saw the bomb squad called to an industrial estate and several homes evacuated overnight.

Just after 10am on September 30, officers received a report of suspicious activity in the Portberry Street area of South Shields.
It was reported that a small, homemade explosive device was believed to be inside a storage container.
