HERE is a small part of the North East that takes in the Gateshead flyover, Gateshead Stadium and the planned conference centre site that has not exactly enjoyed good fortunes in recent years.

The sight of the empty conference centre plot is particularly galling. What should be a site bringing jobs and wealth to the region, not to mention great events, is just a muddy mess where nothing has happened
