10 arrested in raid on suspected sex trafficking activity

An investigation into sex worker exploitation in Newcastle city centre has seen police arrest 10 people and safeguard victims.
On Thursday morning, officers attended Leazes Park Road after receiving information about suspcious activity at a property.
Police executed multiple warrants around suspected human trafficking and modern slavery offences at the premises and adjoining flats.
Northumbria Police's serious organised crime exploitation team was involved in the operation, supported by the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit, Newcastle City Council and Immigration Enforcement.
Ten people were arrested, including four men, aged 23, 30, 34 and 66, and two women, aged 38 and 57, on suspicion of controlling prostitution for gain. Three women, aged 22, 34 and 37, were arrested at the same time for immigration offences.
