Sugar: Some bitter facts
May 15, 2025
|The Island
We are addicted to sugar. We add it to everything. But the truth is, we are poisoning ourselves. Sugar is a slow acting poison.
-
We are fond of our cakes, jams, biscuits, buns, sugar rolls, and included with all those, there is our love of pasta, noodles, bread and white rice: all carbohydrates which turn to sugar as we eat them.
But sugar is a slow acting poison — it poisons us, but slowly! Also, it is addictive. Oddly enough we do not add cyanide, nor arsenic to our food as we know they act rapidly to kill us. But we add sugar to our food - in fact to most of the things that we eat! It provides us with a rapid boost of energy but quickly dies away and soon you feel you want to eat again. Experts say our poor diet and lack of exercise are the cause of Insulin Resistance and diabetes. It has many other harmful effects which damage us, too, and even shortens our lives. Go to any hospital and you will find it full, overloaded with patients on beds, most suffering from Insulin Resistance or other diabetes-related problems.
